Abraham David Christian. Beyond Language

Abraham David Christian, born in Düsseldorf in 1952, has been an internationally active artist since his first participation at the age of 20 at Documenta 5 in Kassel with studios in Düsseldorf, New York, Tokyo and, for a few years now, also in Chur. After his earth sculptures of the 1970s, which were close to Minimal Art and Arte Povera, he concentrated on working with paper and cardboard in his later work and cast his fragile works in plaster or bronze. They are often created in groups of works, with each individual object characterized by a radical reduction. This also applies to his drawings, in which he oscillates back and forth between free forms and highly idiosyncratic ciphers. The exhibition at the Graubünden Art Museum Chur shows an overview of the work of this artist in a concentrated presentation tailored to the specific premises. In addition, individual works by the artist will be exhibited outdoors at selected locations in Graubünden.

The exhibition was conceived and set up in close collaboration with the artist. It is accompanied by a publication with photographs by Gaudenz Signorell.
