«On paintings by Giovanni Segantini»

Michael Krüger (born 1943) is one of the most important writers in the German-speaking world. As head of the Hanser publishing house, he shaped the literary scene in Germany for decades and at the same time we were able to get to know him as a writer, poet and essayist.

The reading in Chur will focus on his book "On Paintings by Segantini" (Schirmer/Mosel, 2022). In the work of Giovanni Segantini (1858–1899), who died young 125 years ago, Krüger shows a new perspective that allows us to rediscover the beauty and the completely unsentimental understanding of nature of his work as well as its background. Perhaps during the discussion, moderated by Chasper Pult, Romance scholar and cultural mediator, we will learn why Krüger recognized the secret of his art as a young man when he looked at the painting "The Ploughing" in Munich. What is certain is that the audience will be captivated by his witty, slightly ironic remarks and his enthusiasm for the most famous high mountain painter of the late 19th century.
