Details

Description

Starting in Ilanz, the path leads along the anterior Rhine (Vorderrhein) through a floodplain of national importance to Versam station in the heart of the valley. The Rhine gorge is characterised by 300 meter high sandstone walls. The Swiss Grand Canyon offers an extraordinary diversity of wildlife and vegetation. As there is no continuous trail between Versam and Trin stations, this section has to be covered by Rhaetian Railway. The footpath resumes at Trin Station. The path leads along the river bank to Reichenau, where the Vorderrhein (anterior Rhine) and Hinterrhein (posterior Rhine) rivers meet.
In and out with the Ruinaulta ticket: The Ruinaulta ticket offers you unlimited all day travel by train and postbus through the Rhine gorge.

Note(s)
Please note: The section Versam Station to Trin Station is not accessible by foot due to the terrain and must therefore be covered by Rhaetian Railway.

Geheimtipp

Along the way you will find numerous rest areas and fire pits. Please use firewood sparingly.

There are places to stop for refreshments at the train stations in Valendas, Versam and Trin.

Sicherheitshinweis

Attention: There is no hiking trail near the river between Versam Station and Trin Station and the area may not be walked on (nature conservation). The section of the route must therefore be covered by the Rhaetian Railway.

For those in good shape, a hiking trail leads from Versam Station via Pintrun and Trin Digg to Trin Station in about 3 hours. The hiking time from Ilanz to Reichenau is then over 7 hours.

The hiking trail between Trin Station and Reichenau is closed in the winter season due to the tranquility of the game and the risk of falling rocks. Please note the blocking on the map function.

In case of uncertain weather conditions, the tour should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar comes up during the hike, you should turn back in time.
