Under a cheerful sky, the evening serenades used to be given. 
The three works for two violins and viola all three stand in this tradition of entertaining, amiable and pleasurable lightness. In Beethoven's Trio op. 74 resonates with the opera and his 2nd Symphony. The Serenade op. 12 von Kodàly is characterized by Hungarian folk songs and dances that the composer has collected for years.  
"I'm writing little trifles now, you think, just for two violins and viola. I am just as happy about the work as when I wrote a great symphony," Dvoràk commented on his Terzetto op. 74, in which the three high string instruments paint rare, almost unearthly timbres and dance in a Furiant and Ländler in Bohemian style. 

The three professional musicians met during their studies and in the orchestra. A special concern for them is chamber music, which allows them to enter into direct contact with the audience.
