Where's Africa: She's Gone (Hommage an Irène Schweizer)

In the summer of 2024, pianist Irène Schweizer and drummer Makaya Ntshoko died in quick succession. Both were seminal figures in modern Jaz and played in the original Where's Africa Trio for ten years from 2006.

The current Where's Africa has decided to develop the new program as a tribute to the two. Yves Theiler returns to his instrument, the piano, and all pieces are new compositions, mainly from the pen of Omri Ziegele.

The pieces are thoughtful, wistful, but also galloping and high-spirited. They reflect the relationship Ziegele had with both musicians. In the best case, the trio manages to evoke the spirit of the two old people: the presence, the intensity, the openness to each other – or according to Don Cherry: togetherness.
