Master plan and projects

Things are moving forward with the sports facilities! In 2017, the indoor stadium was purchased and the first artificial turf pitch was inaugurated. The second pitch followed in 2018 and the third in 2019. In the same year the Mühlbach stream relocation and the boccia and skate park leisure facilities were realised. In addition, in autumn 2018 the people of Chur voted for the winning project of the overall ice/grass sports competition. This is the "EISBALL" project by the company HRS Real Estate. This involves the construction of an ice sports training stadium (opened 2022) and five new natural grass pitches (2021-2024) as well as a grandstand for lawn sports (2025) in the Obere Au. The new event hall is also to be built in Obere Au (2026), replacing the old event hall in the centre, which will have to be relocated due to the relocation of Chur Bergbahnen.

2025 - completion project "Eisball"

At the beginning of 2025, the traffic regulations on the Obere Au site were adapted to the new conditions. Further information.

Commissioning of the grass sports stadium, including natural grass pitch no. 1 (main pitch), took place in May 2025. With that the ‘Eisball’ project is completed.

A busy 2024

After a rather quiet 2023 in terms of construction activities on the Obere Au, 2024 was set to be a busy one: the demolition of the indoor riding arena, which had to make way for the field sports stadium and the last new natural grass pitch, began in January. Construction of the stadium started at the end of February.

From May to October 2024, the Chur Bus turning loop and "Obere Au" bus stop was renovated also in order to cope with the higher number of guests in the future.

Construction of the new event hall on the Obere Au site began in November 2024. This is expected to replace the old event hall in Chur city centre from 2026.
