Jesus and his mother Mary have fascinated people for almost two thousand years. Its meaning, its role in the "history of salvation", its character and its importance have been hotly debated, reinterpreted and thought through again and again. And this not only within the Bible and the Christian tradition, but also in the Koran and in the Islamic tradition. Did you know that both Jesus and Mary appear in the Koran? What role do they play there? And what role do they play in the Reformed and Catholic traditions, in the lives of believers, Christians, and Muslims? Where do the Christian and Muslim traditions and interpretations touch or meet, and how do they differ to this day? At the interreligious education and meeting day at the Kulturpunkt in Chur, we want to talk to each other about these topics and discover new and fascinating things in a joint dialogue.

Every Monday in the Week of Religions there is a Lunch&Learn. Short input on a topic related to migration or interreligious dialogue. Speaker still open.

Valerio Meuli paints, draws and writes. But in his first exhibition – which he can do in the "Werkstatt" – he shows prints. And that is lino prints: the medium that many probably still know from school and is considered relatively unsexy. Most of the works on display were created in the fall of 2024 during a stay in Paris.

On September 13, 2025, the sixth edition of the Arcas Rock music festival will take place. The most beautiful old town square in Chur will be enchanted by the US indie band Nada Surf and the three Swiss acts Nickless, Julie Meletta and Andrea Bignasca as well as the local musicians Ladunna.

With Nada Surf , the Wohlklang association has succeeded in engaging one of the world's most influential indie rock bands. For over 30 years, the New Yorkers have been traveling all over the globe and have released over 10 albums. With their new record 'Mirror', they can be seen exclusively in eastern Switzerland at Arcas Rock this summer. Before that, Nickless will grace the Arcas. At the top of the Swiss music scene for many years, he brings his EP 'C'est La Vie, Baby!' with him and enchants the Arcas with his catchy pop jewels. The high-flyer and SRF 3 Best Talent Julie Meletta will present her new album 'Amarcoeur' for the first time in Graubünden at Arcas Rock and will get the audience going with French indie pop. Andrea Bignasca from Ticino is omnipresent on all radio channels and will set a first highlight on the Arcas. As always, Graubünden music is also represented at Arcas Rock. The festival will be opened by Ladunna. The two musicians will be a first highlight at this year's Arcas Rock with extravagant electro-pop.

The "Organ and Wine" format takes place every year as part of the Chur Organ Concerts. This year it has been expanded to "Organ, Singing and Wine", as the soprano Johanna Heim works alongside the "house organist" Stephan Thomas. The wines that are sung about and played are those of Uwe Schneider from Zizers, whose bottles, which are still too little known, have struck us extremely positively. The mediation between wine and music is provided by Stephan Thomas, who works as a wine journalist in addition to his musical activities. Following the concert part, the tasting of the wines will take place as usual in the Antistitium (Kirchgasse 12).

Admission is free, a collection will be charged. Wine tasting CHF 15.00 per person.

Ekaterina Kofanova, Basel

The Chur Organ Concerts conclude the 2025 cycle with a recital by Ekaterina Kofanova from Basel. The concert organist, who comes from Belarus, has held organist positions in Switzerland for some time, first at the Church of Peace in Bern, and since 2016 at the University Church of St. Peter in Basel. The musicologist with a doctorate is also active as a choir conductor, for example as conductor of the Bern Motet Choir. In her Chur concert, she mainly plays music from the time the instrument was created in St. Martin's, namely the Organ Sonata by Edward Elgar and the Fantasy op. 176 by Gustav Merkel, as well as works by César Franck.

The Chur Organ Concerts return to the idea that led to their founding 34 years ago, namely to play concerts on the historic organs of the city of Chur. After a long break, the canopy organ is also back in the Rhaetian Museum. This organ is famous for its extraordinary age - it dates from the late 16th century - in professional circles beyond the country's borders.

Maurizio Croci from Fribourg is a specialist in instruments like this. Croci has made a name for himself as a concert musician, but also as a cultural organizer, for example as founder and artistic director of the Académie d'Orgue de Fribourg.

For some years now, Stephan Thomas has been playing an organ concert in Chur's St. Martin's Church on 1 August for the national holiday.

The connection to his homeland is diverse: pieces by Swiss composers or those with a close connection to Switzerland, such as Franz Liszt. Music about local folk songs, or compositions that are otherwise perceived as "Helvetic", such as the Berezin song. In the absence of a broad repertoire on this topic, Stephan Thomas has written a number of pieces himself, had them published and recorded on recordings.

The obligatory conclusion is formed by the variations on the national anthem.

Pipes, keys, buttons, winding corridors – the organ is a fantastic creature that fascinates young and old. It is precisely the view into the interior, which is only possible on special occasions, that reveals the immense diversity and complexity of this organism. During the guided tour of the St. Martin's organ, the children are allowed to play the organ, take a short trip into the belly of the instrument, blow in organ pipes and much more. Parents are also welcome.
