The anniversary exhibition "From Here" focuses on the collection of the Bündner Kunstmuseum, shows specific peculiarities and develops perspectives for the future.
In 1900, the Bündner Kunstverein began to build up an art collection. The collection now comprises around 8000 works from all areas of the visual arts from the 18th century to the present day and reflects the media diversity of artistic creation. Since its foundation, it has developed from the specific cultural situation of Graubünden: this includes the imprint of the mountain landscape as well as the interplay of emigration and tourism. Artists come and go, carry the special into the world and bring the world to Graubünden. The history of art in Graubünden is characterised by various formative figures and movements that have led to special focal points in the collection. The aim is to keep the historically grown collection independent and unmistakable. To this end, the existing focal points are to be maintained and expanded and new accents are to be set.
The anniversary exhibition "From here" extends over the entire museum with both houses (Villa Planta and the extension). The focus is on the highlights of the collection as well as the new acquisitions of recent years, which have expanded the collection's profile. A special focus of the exhibition is the perspective into the future: "From here" does not only mean anchoring on site, but also wants to show in which direction the museum collection can be expanded. To this end, loans are specifically requested and works are commissioned.

Light, colour and language
In the 1960s, the neon tube found its way into the art world as a material. Composed of solid glass and gaseous neon, these works of art are at the intersection of solid and volatile material. To this day, the Welsh object artist Bethan Huws continues to work with such light sources and challenges our perception. Visual sensory impressions and language play an interplay: how much white, gray and black becomes visible in the fluorescent tubes during the half-hour joint viewing of the work?

The Lithuanian artist Augustas Serapinas (*1990) has created a new site-specific installation at the Graubünden Art Museum, the starting point of which is a historic bathhouse in Rūdninkai near Vilnius. Back in 2021, the artist dismantled that abandoned wooden house and reassembled it at a new location in Kaunas, Lithuania. For an exhibition in Holland in 2022, he converted it into a teahouse. In a next step, Serapinas burned the wood of the house to make soaps and cement bricks from the ashes. In our rooms, he finally creates a sculpture from these hundreds of bricks, which represents an impressive kiln, and installs it on the floor of an equally old house. In the eyes of Serapinas, abandoned houses, such as those we find in Graubünden, are living monuments. They tell of migration and the search for a better life. In contrast to traditional monuments, which are erected on high pedestals, these buildings usually go unnoticed. Serapinas focuses on the invisible cultural heritage by making popular traditions visible as something formable and changeable.

The spring exhibition is dedicated to woodcuts - a cross-section of prints from the last 120 years or so by Giovanni Giacometti, E. L. Kirchner, Hermann Scherer, Paul Camenisch, Albert Müller, Martha Cunz, Philippe Bauknecht, Georg Peter Luck, Bruno Gentinetta, Emil Hungerbühl, Renato Oggier, Per Kirkeby and many more. The exhibition is complemented by two works on loan from the Franz Gertsch Museum, as well as works by contemporary artists Gian Häne and Ruth Pleschko.

Philipp Fankhauser's Something tour starts on March 7, 2025 with the record launch at the Theater National Bern. His new album "Ain't That Something" will be released on the same day. We are thrilled with the new songs. Listening to it has never been as worthwhile as it is with this album. Accompanied by his five traditional musicians, the Philipp Fankhauser concerts are always a mixture of popular songs and new music.

Join the choir fémina's under the direction of Andrés Heredia on a musical journey through different countries of our world. We start with songs from England, Andalusia, Germany, Poland, Iceland and Africa. After a break, we return to Switzerland and dedicate ourselves to Swiss songs in the four national languages. The concerto will be sung a cappella.
