Description

Whoever can complete the round tour in a single day from Ilanz, over Sagogn, Flims, Trin to Tamins and back to Ilanz via Bonaduz, Versam and Valendas, can count him or herself a biking-ace. However, for those who enjoy the scenery, it is recommended to do this tour in daily stages. The first pleasure is a choice of three bathing lakes: Laaxersee, Caumasee and the Crestasee. Further on are three different viewing-platforms over the unique landscape of Sardona - which is also a UNESCO world heritage site. A worthwhile detour from Versam into the Safiental is rewarded with a glimpse of delightful old Walser hamlets. There are many places to stay along the biking-route, from camping to five-star resorts.

For those who enjoy the scenery, it is recommended to do this tour in daily stages.

Description

After setting off in Grüsch at the valley station of the Grüsch-Danusa mountain railways we follow the route along riverside paths and pleasantly undulating single trails we track the course of the Landquart river. From Schiers we continue along flat and pleasant sections to Pragg Jenaz. This is where the steep, asphalted ascent to the picturesque mountain village of Furna begins. It is well worth stopping at the pretty little church to take in the stunning panorama of the Rätikon range. From Furna we continue upwards along the mountain road, through the skiing area of Grüsch-Danusa, to the Alp Rona. This is the start of the wonderful single trail that takes us through the hilly terrain on a fast-flowing route. At the pretty hamlet of Scära the trail leads on to the mountain pasture and from here it plunges very steeply downhill to the alpine track in the direction of Stams. We then continue on a pleasant track through Stams, the picturesque cluster of pasture huts, then down a steeper asphalted road through the villages of Says and Trimmis to the beautiful Rhine river. The route briefly takes us along the banks of the Rhine to Zizers and then on to Igis and the fine sight of Schloss Marschlins. At Ganda the valley steadily closes in as it takes us through the narrow Chlus along flat and pleasant tracks back to Grüsch in the Prättigau valley

Description

The fourth stage begins with a steep ascent to the Strelapass. After a flat section through the rocky path, there is a one-hour climb to the watershed. After that you have overcome the metres in altitude and the rest of the route can be completed comfortably. The panoramic view of the Prättigau is breathtaking. The contrast between the barren ski area and the beautiful Fondei is impressive. "Hardly any other high valley in the Alps has such a well-preserved Walser cultural landscape. Sun-baked wooden houses lie scattered in flowering mountain meadows. A picture that was probably true of many Walser areas for centuries. In contrast to many Walser settlements, the Fondei was demonstrably inhabited all year round for 600 years with a population of up to over two hundred people. It was only with the development of the transport routes and the removal of the hay yields at the end of the 19th century that the valley became depopulated." (Mettier-Heinrich, Hochtal Fondei).

Geheimtipp

  • Break and picnic at the beautiful Grünseeli on the Durannapass.
  • Refreshments at the Casanna and Strassberg mountain inns

Description

After the cableway ascent from Chur to Brambrüesch, a short and pleasant ascent over the Malixeralp to Lake Spundis follows. There you take the exit via Juchs to Chur. And it's got it in it! At the beginning a flowing trail leads across the meadows, which inspires jumps of joy. Later it becomes steeper and more demanding until you have crossed the ravine and descend over a meadow to Alp Juchs. After following the alp road for a short while, a hiking trail soon branches off to the left again. Now begins a technical, partially exposed single trail, traversed by demanding (but with some practice rideable - please avoid abbreviations) hairpin bends. The trail crosses the road several times until one follows the alp road a bit further down. And then after a bend another trail branches off to the right. Here begins a flow firework, the trail leads relatively flat in several sections up to the Rosenhügel above Chur. On this last section, especially before the curves, drive with foresight and caution, as hikers or bikers might also come across. From Rosenhügel one follows the road and behind the Welschdörfli through back to the valley station of the Chur cableways.

Directions

Public Transport

Take the train to Chur station. From there you can reach the valley station by bike in 5 minutes.

Anreise Information

  • Highway exit Chur Süd

  • Drive in direction of the city centre (Kasernenstrasse)

Guests of the Chur cableways park for free at the parking lot at the cableway station. But you must indicate the plate number of your car at the cash desk!

Description

From Bad Ragaz, the pass route, which was already used by the Romans, leads steadily increasing to the spa town of Valens. There you drive rather flat over the almost 100 meter high bridge further down to Vasön and the mapragg reservoir. Before the dam, turn right and continue along the lakeshore before continuing on the main road at the end of the lake.

Through a wild valley basin with almost vertically rising mountain flanks on both sides, we continue to Vättis. The final ascent to the pass now runs away from the traffic in untouched, grandiose landscape. Shortly after the mountain restaurant Eggwald, the canton of St.Gallen is left, you are now, even before the pass height, on Graubünden soil.

At the transition from the Tamina Valley to the Rhine Valley, the great differences on both sides of the watershed are astonishing. The descent to Tamins is a delight with a view of the confluence of the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein.

Geheimtipp

A breather in the mountain restaurant Eggwald at Kunkelspass.

Sicherheitshinweis

Description

Graubünden’s 150 km route between Müstair and Mustér (Disentis) presents the stunning valley landscapes of the Münstertal and dreamy Susaunatal, deep Schanfigg and varied Cadi– together with the four challenging passes, Costainer, Scaletta, Strela and Chrüzlipass.

Physical efforts are however rewarded by the sight of picturesque Graubünden villages nestled between beautiful valley landscapes. Each valley portrays an independent community concerning history, culture, religion and laws. In fact, Graubünden reflects a concentrated picture of European variety – where the Jakobsweg Graubünden leads from east to west through the impressive region.

Müstair with signs of Middle Ages lifestyle – and preceding Chur, Switzerland’s oldest town, Tschiertschen’s cathedral (Jakobskirche), displaying a mural from the hand of the Waltensburg master. And before Disentis, numerous traces remind one of the ancient pilgrims’ paths. From Amsteg the way then leads through the Urnerland to the National Route 4 ViaJacobi.

Sicherheitshinweis
